(2008): Marvel Masterworks: Captain America. Sam Wilson dons his new costume and is now the Falcon, the new champion of the island. As the Exiles continue their hunt for the Red Skull, the locals create a costume for Wilson. With this knowledge, Wilson worked to free the people the Exiles had enslaved on the island and convincde to stand up against their fascist overlords.Ĭaptain America is inspired by the young man’s courage and instills upon the need for a mask and costume as a symbol. Wilson further explains that he saw a newspaper article about learning to train falcons on a Haitian island and that he readily signed up, not knowing he would be an employee of the Exiles. Wilson explains his love of birds and that he has been training pigeons from Harlem rooftops to acquire a falcon like Redwing to train. The young man introduces himself as Sam Wilson, a resident of Harlem. Captain America completes his task and thanks the young African-American master of Redwing for the help he received. At the same time, Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.) have detected their creation, (the Cosmic Cube), has been used and informed their leader MODOK about the development.īack on Exile Island, the falcon-named Redwing-catches up with his master who was trying to help Cap fend off his attackers. The Red Skull decides to implement the next part of his plan, to ruin Captain America’s reputation so when his true corpse is found there will be no one to mourn him. Angrily, the Red Skull orders everyone to leave him alone. At a fancy hotel, the Red Skull becomes fed up with the Star Spangled Avenger’s adoring fans and myriad of questions from the press. However, the villain is disgusted with adulation the hero receives. Fearing the Exiles might have seen the villain’s face, he applies clay to his face to better disguise himself.īack in the United States, the Red Skull continues to parade around as Captain America. Cap realizes that the Red Skull has been using a mask, and decides to remove it to ensure his escape. The Exiles battle the falcon, which gives Cap an opportunity to hide in the jungle. Back on Exile Island, Captain America is not killed but is in fact saved by a falcon that has been trained for combat. Convinced that Captain America’s demise is soon at hand, the Red Skull decides to parade as the star spangled superhero. A battle with the Exiles ensues.Īlthough Cap has superior fighting skills when compared with the Exiles, he is not used to the Red Skull’s body and is overwhelmed by his foes in a group attack. Cap attempts to hide from the Exiles but the Red Skull uses the Cosmic Cube to eliminate his hiding spot. The villain teleported Captain America to Exile Island in hopes the Exiles he betrayed on the island will kill Captain America now in his body.
